I just read that bags of Doritos suddenly started washing up on the shores of North Carolina today. I can’t imagine anything better in this world than having nachos literally wash up beside you at the beach. If only a container carrying salsa would have been beached as well.
You can read about it here. ...
So tonight Jeff stopped by for some nachos and to watch a Christmas movie. Well, its not exactly your typical Christmas Movie, but I like to watch Die Hard at least once a season, since it technically has some Christmas music in it. I wish they made movies like that nowadays. The last good action movie with the same spirit was probably True Lies, but everything else just takes itself a little too seriously.
On another note, I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get the stitches on my face out. I’ve had these steri-strips across my cheek since the operation, and last night I decided to take ...
Well, I got the steri-strips off and the stitches out just a while ago. It actually looks pretty good. There’s a small line of dried blood that should come off in the next week or so, but once that’s gone I don’t think there’s gonna to be too much of a scar at all.
Here’s a picture taken just a few minutes ago (for those of you interested). Sorry for the stupid angle, and the stupid pose, but it’s hard taking self pics.

So, as Hesty would put it, my head is nearly unfucked now. Everything is looking pretty good. My vision is nearly ...
Here’s a good link, thanks to Chris.
The connection is complex, he says. But in fact, very rich people rate substantially higher in satisfaction with life than very poor people do, even within wealthy nations, he says.
“There is overwhelming evidence that money buys happiness,” said economist Andrew Oswald of the University of Warwick in England. The main debate, he said, is how strong the effect is.

Everyone always bugs me at work for sitting in a sort of “lying down” position. However, recent research seems to back me up.
The “slouch” position revealed a reduction in spinal disk height, signifying a high rate of wear and tear on the lowest two spinal levels. Across all measurements, the researchers concluded that the 135-degree position fared the best. As a result, Dr. Bashir and colleagues advise patients to stave off future back problems by correcting their sitting posture and finding a chair that allows them to sit in an optimal position of 135 degrees.
“This may be all that ...
Anyone have any good music suggestions for me? I’ve been trying to explore the Indie scene a bit more. I like most songs from the Garden State Soundtrack.
Suggest anything! Thanks. ...
I stuck close to home this weekend, only venturing out briefly to restock my movie pile and grab some food. Friday night, Chris and Cisco popped by to see how I was doing. Later, Tiffany, Katherine and Jenn also came by, and we all just listened to music and hung out.

It’s pretty cool that it’s snowing outside. I can’t remember the last time it snowed in Vancouver in November. I really love winter. There’s something about the peace and quiet that goes along with the early nights, the crisp cool air, and of course, the falling of snow.
Seeing it snow motivated ...
Clay posted an article today talking about the snow, and how his camera tended to make everything look dark. What he didn’t realize is that his camera was actually doing what it was probably supposed to do. And here’s why.
Almost all cameras have light meters that are set up to try and make every scene around 18% grey. Some guy a long time ago looked around and realized that almost every real-world scene is made up of midtones, and these midtones are usually in the ballpark of 18%. So, whenever a camera looks at a scene, it tries to figure out the amount of exposure needed to make the subject ...
I just woke up from a little nap, and went downstairs to grab a drink from the little store.. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was snowing lightly. I love snow. I hope it stays for a while.

I finally got tired of leaving my computer on 24-7 for this web site, so I set up a hosting account through godaddy. Surprisingly, it wasn’t that hard to transfer everything over from my machine. The funny thing is that I probably am going to save more money on power by having it off than it costs me to host it.
I’m sure there will be a few things here and there that don’t work, but I’ll fix them as I hit them. So, as of now, the computer in my room is completely off, and hopefully I can finally have a good night’s sleep. ...
Well, yesterday was an interesting day. I guess I should really start with that night, since I did whatever I could to keep myself busy, knowing that I was going in for surgery early in the morning. Obviously, I didn’t really have that good a sleep, since I had a lot on my mind. 7am came pretty quicky, and I made my way down to the hospital for my 8am time. Despite them sending me multiple emails and leaving a few voice messages that I should be there at 8am, apparently at 7:45am, I was “late”, and people seemed to be in a huff about that.. Not sure what that was about.
So, first thing they ...
Photo of me about to walk on stage (shot by my dad)
The ceremony went well, and I officially have my degree now. Gonna go hang it up in my room in a few minutes. I’ll post some more photos that other people took as soon as they send them to me.

My original goal was to do it in 18 months. I did it in 48. Not bad. Not bad at all. ...
For those of you who are history buffs, John F. Kennedy was shot at 12:30 CST on November 22nd, 1963. I once spent a lot of time reading about JFK, years ago.
Also in the news lately is allegedly new evidence into the assassination of RFK at the Ambassador Hotel right after the California Primary in 1968. Some info about that assassination is here.
In 1976, the House Select Committee on Assassinations undertook an investigation into the deaths of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. to help put the rest the publics’ belief that these assassinations took place as a result of a conspiracy.
The Final ...
A few days ago, I mentioned that Kate’s fiance was going to give me a second opinion about my injury. The official word back was that yes, I do have a orbital floor fracture in addition to a tripod fracture. I sent his opinion to my plastic surgeon, and he eventually agreed that I do have one and that it should also be fixed. Which raises sort of an interesting question — how did the two or three doctors that looked at me initially not see this?
I managed to get a hold of the plastic surgeon I was dealing with at the hospital, and talked it over with him. He’s sending me to an eye specialist ...
I’ll be graduating from UBC tomorrow at 1:30pm. If anyone wants to check out a live feed of the ceremony, go to the UBC website and watch the stream.
My degree is a Masters of Applied Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (with a Specialization in Multimedia and Video Compression). ...
Most of my swelling has finally gone down, which is good. I still have some blood left in my eye, but that’s slowly going away too. Unfortunately, I have three problems left that don’t seem to be subsiding:
I have a lot of sinus pressure on the left side of my face
I can’t look upwards without seeing double vision
My left eye appears slightly sunken compared to my right eye
So, even though my doctor said just to chill out, I decided I’d contact him again today. I had to jump through alot of hoops to get a hold of the same guy who saw me 9 days ago, but I finally got to talk to him. Thankfully, ...
Andie and I went and saw the Vancouver Canucks play the Chicago Blackhawks last night down at GM Place. It’s the first hockey game I’ve really watched in its entirety this season. The Canucks played pretty good, and eventually won with a final score of 2-1.
A couple cool things happened at the game. My old friend Mike from Ottawa was there (I found out on IM earlier in the day), so Mike and I managed to text msg each other on our phones until we finally found ourselves catching up in front of 322 between the first and second periods. I haven’t seen Mike in about 3 years I guess. Mike was ...
A bunch of us went out to Smiley O’Neils on Friday night for a few beers. It was pretty much my first beer drinking night in the last few weeks, so it was good to get out and just relax for a while.
Afterwards, some of us met down at the Nelson St. Cafe. to see some live music. I originally went to see Melanie Dekker, but unfortunately, she played before we got there. However, the music was still pretty good, and I took some photos.
Also, in just a few more days, I’ll be boarding a plane and heading south for a week in Mexico. Bob and Candice left last Friday, and are undoubtedly sipping ...
