Let's get this party started

Published on
Ok, I’m gonna turn over a new blogging leaf. I’m gonna be fun. I’m gonna be happy. And most importantly, I’m gonna be frickin exciting. That’s right sports fans. Let’s turn down the suck knob a bit, put up a few disco balls, and get this party going. Now maybe that’s the caffeine talking, or maybe it’s some weird chemical reaction taking place in my brain (due to the lack of carbs in my diet of late), but it’s been a few days since I’ve written anything, and I’m in a good mood. Part of that reason is that we finally completed a pretty big milestone at work today. It’s been ...

Plugin Competition

Published on
Last week, John got a hold of me on iChat and let me know about a WordPress plugin competition. Since I have written a few of them, I thought I might as well enter the Crossroads Flickr plugin into the competition. While the contest winners haven’t been announced yet, they have announced all the participants over at one of the sites. If you are a user of the plugin, head on over and give it an honest rating. ...

2am and all is well

I haven’t written a blog entry in a few days because quite frankly, I’ve been absolutely swamped at work. I’ve been working on a big project for a few months, and we’re hoping to be done a piece of it tomorrow. I have an IM conference going between a guy in Europe, and another guy out here, and we’re all putting the final pieces together. I’m officially dead tired. After I’m done with work tomorrow, I think I’m going to come back home and take a well-deserved nap to try and recharge after today. I’m going to finally do something on Saturday that I’ve been meaning to do for ...

Fireworks

Last night Hesty and I tried a different view point for the fireworks. My camera was being a bit dumb, and I didn’t end up with many shots, but here’s one I rather liked. And thanks to Tony for the link love, much appreciated. I hope your balls feel better soon, man. ...

A few years ago I made my way to Central America for a week in the sun in Costa Rica. I finally managed to put the photos from it on Flickr. ...

Reality in Bolivia

Published on
So this photo is by Dan Lilly — he’s not officially part of my photo of the day group (he’s currently vacationing in Bolivia). However, I really love this photo he took, so I’m gonna show it here — it really pulls on the heart-strings. ...

Vacation in less than a month

Published on
In less than four weeks, I’ll be getting on a plane and heading to Ottawa for my friend Rob’s wedding. The last time off I took was basically back in February, and I spent that walking around rainy Seattle for only a few days. This trip, however, promises to be a lot more interesting, and hopefully more relaxing. The only real things that I have on my plate are my friend’s wedding, a trip down to Toronto to see a few people, and then a visit to Quebec City (since I never spent any time there when I lived out east). I’m pretty sure I’m going to bring a suitcase with some dress clothes ...

Cathy's Broken Toe

Published on
My step mom was apparently trying to hang a picture or something this morning and accidentally banged her toe. The end result is clearly displayed in this photo: Clearly her toe is broken. They spent a few hours in the hospital in Chilliwack today and finally put that sucker back in the correct spot. Unfortunately, she’ll be on crutches for a few weeks. ...

Cinnamon, The Wonder Spice

Published on
Part of the reason I wrote the last article on insulin resistance is so I could continue to talk about that subject without continually explaining what it is I was talking about. Sometime around the year 2003, there was a pretty seminal study performed that had an undesirable, although extremely fascinating outcome. The researchers at the time were trying to guage the body’s insulin response to various foods. When they came to apple pie though, they were in for a surprise: Just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics, a new study has found. The ...

Twitter Updates from WordPress

Published on
I took a quick break this afternoon from work and decided to hash out a quick WordPress plugin that would push my blog entries into my Twitter feed. The end result is WordTwit, and it’s available for download if anyone wants to try it on their WordPress blog. Drop me a comment or two and let me know what you think. ...

Blogathon Nearing the Half-way Point

Published on
Rebecca is only a few hours away from crossing the half-way point for blogathon. 100% of the contributions she receives will be going to the Surrey Food Bank — it’s not too late to head over to her site and drop a few dollars to support a good cause. I contributed a guest post on her website for the 3pm blog entry — you can check it out here. ...

Blogathon

Rebecca (aka Miss604) is participating in a blogathon tomorrow to support a local Surrey charity.. So, I’d appreciate it if you spend tomorrow over on her site, reading her posts (one every 30 minutes for 24 hours straight), and hopefully dropping a small contribution her way. I plan to submit an entry or two during the day to help her out, so please drop by and give her some moral support! Thanks! ...

Crossroads 2.0 Alpha Now Available For WordPress

Published on
I’ve really been trying hard to get a new release of Crossroads out for quite some time, but with my job at work, it’s just so hard to find a few hours to spare these days. That being said, I’ve up-reved the plugin to version 2.0, and am making the changes I’ve done available as a download. This is an early alpha, and for sure it has a few bugs, so please don’t expect it to be perfect. Compared to version 1.0, here are some changes: Added support for GreyBox image gallery Added support for HighSlide JS image gallery Fixed a few changes with how the scripts were loaded to improve compatibility Added ...

My Photos Sure Do Get Around

Published on
As everyone who hits my blog these days knows, I really like taking photos. My passion for photography started about seven years ago, and is still going strong today. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to afford a really nice camera and a full suite of lenses, and while I sort of understand what’s needed to take “good” photos, my camera really does the majority of the heavy lifting. My friends routinely use my photos in blog posts (which I really appreciate), but every once and a while I do a quick search via Technorati to see who else is using my photos. Tonight, that search led me ...

Fireworks and Friends

Tony Pierce is currently in town checking out some of the Canadian sights and trying his hand at drinking Canadian beer. Tonight Tony, Robyn, Rebecca, John, Keira, Adam and Corinna all came down to my place for some pre-fireworks drinking. I wasn’t up to my typical drinking self, but I still managed to demolish 6 or 7 beers in fairly short order. I didn’t really eat any type of supper, so I’m a bit hungry now. On Friday some of us are going to meet up after work for a longer version of tonight, with hopefully a larger group. It was a cool night though, and it is the first time since ...
