I Gotta Say

This is pretty stupid. The US government sanctioned the flight of a low-flying 747 over New York city the other day. Obviously seeing a large commercial airliner flying low over New York City set a lot of people into a panic. For whatever reason, that flight was deemed somewhat classified so nobody could tell the people living in New York City about it. You can read more about it here. ...

One Of Those Mornings

Published on
For whatever reason, I didn’t end up falling asleep until around 4am last night. Obviously waking up this morning after about four hours of sleep was pretty crappy. I’m out of cream at home so I meandered my way down to one of my two favorite coffee shops and set up shop. Unfortunately, I forgot my wallet and my cell phone at home (at least I’m hoping my wallet is at home). Thankfully I had a few bucks worth of change in my pocket so I could order a coffee. The problem with lack of sleep is that it typically forces me into a caffeine cycle. Basically I wake up tired, so I have lots of coffee, ...

Updated Page Content

I spent some time tonight updating my about page, the site information page, and my media kit. I also dumped the content of my FriendFeed stream to my new streams page. I’ve loving the layout options with the new site changes. Can’t wait to slowly build it out over the next few weeks. ...

Afternoon Gymnastics

Published on
One of the best parts about living in Chilliwack is finally being able to hang out with my niece and nephew once and a while. I managed to make it down to Jessica’s gymnastics performance this afternoon, which was cool. I also snagged a pretty cute shot of a little Jelly Bean girl waiting to start rolling her ball. You can check out a few more shots in my Flickr stream. ...

Microstock Photography

Published on
Just a quick question to the photography crowd out there. Does anyone have any experience selling photos on microstock websites? A couple of people have asked me if I’ve ever put any photographs on microstock sites. I haven’t, mainly because I feel pretty strange selling photos for 50 cents each. Truthfully though, most of my photos sit there collecting dust anyways and don’t make any money, so I was just curious if there’s enough volume on those sites to turn over any non-trivial cash-flow. Drop a comment if you have any idea. Thanks. ...

Please Fix Twitter

Published on
I’ve been using Twitter for a long time now, and the one universal constant in that time period has been the flakiness of the Twitter service. Even today, at least a year after some of these problems started cropping up, you still get the occasional “Fail Whale” when the servers can’t keep up. Some of the other random problems I’ve witnessed lately are: disappearing avatars the inability to upload a new avatar missing background images on profiles flaky service (i.e. the Fail Whale) messages that appear 30 – 60 minutes after they were tweeted Obviously running a service that can ...

T-Minus Four Weeks Until Camping Season

Published on
As most people already know, I am a big fan of camping. I’m not really sure why to be honest, but there’s something about being in the wilderness with nothing but a bit of nylon between you and the outdoors that I’ve always found appealing. Maybe it started years ago when my dad and I used to crash out in his camper when I was a kid. Maybe it was all those trips I did with Brennen and Jeff in the old days. Needless to say, it’s one of the things about summer I always look forward to. Last summer was unique — it was the only summer in ages where I looked back and actually felt like I ...

Weekend Roundup: Osoyoos

Published on
Last week John Bollwitt sent me a Twitter message and asked if I wanted to come out to the Okanagan this weekend. John was asked to setup for a live radio broadcast out at a winery, and unfortunately Rebecca couldn’t go with him. So, being the amazingly awesome friend that I am, I packed up my camera and hopped into John’s company’s mini-cooper. It was a leisurely four hour drive from Chilliwack out to Osoyoos, and John and I just listened to music and got caught up. We basically just sat around and watched TV the first night, as we were both a bit beat from the drive. The second day I basically ...

How To Unfollow Ashton On Twitter

Published on
Ah yes, in what is probably one of the most documented penis measuring contests in recorded history, Ashton Kutcher has quickly vaulted his way up to 1,000,000 followers. For whatever reason, Twitter seems to have disabled the unfollow/follow button his account, so people can’t unfollow him. Thankfully, the Twitter API has a solution to this problem. If you want to unfollow Ashton, try the following: From a Linux or a Mac both (or something that supports curl), simply type the following: curl -u username:password -d “” http://twitter.com/friendships/destroy/aplusk.xml where username is replaced ...

Wagons Ho!

Last night my friend Rebecca had a few tickets to the Canucks game given to her at the last minute. She popped on iChat and asked if I wanted to come, which of course I did. It was the first Canucks game that I had seen this year, and the very first game of the playoffs. Tonight I’m heading out to Osoyoos with John Bollwitt. Apparently he has a radio setup to do down at a wine show out there, so him and I are taking his company’s mini-cooper out to the interior for the weekend. Other than Mexico (which was obviously pretty cool), I haven’t ventured too far from home since moving back to ...

Words From A Patent Clerk

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed. The release of atomic energy has not created a new problem. It has merely made more urgent the necessity of solving an existing one. Strange is our situation here on earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that man is here ...

Sunshine For A Broken Heart

Published on
Featured Image Today I got an email from an old friend I hadn’t heard from in a while. Jill wrote me an email and let me know than her boyfriend thought he would be the poster boy for immaturity and break up with her via email. Obviously, I don’t think that’s very cool. You would think if you care about someone you would at least have the decency to do it in person. That period of time after I got tossed through that window was obviously pretty hard on me. I went through two surgeries, months of recovery time (during which the left side of my face was completely numb — it’s actually still pretty numb, ...

Another Year Gone By

Published on
The photo above is from my 19th birthday. I don’t even really remember the circumstances that led me back to Chilliwack that weekend, but I actually do remember blowing those candles out, and being at the same condo where I graduated from high school. In that same condo I showered after a lot of rugby games, I did a lot of physics lab write-ups, and I even wrote my first song on my Fender strat after some girl stood me up. Sadly enough, I spent most of that night sitting in the dark on the couch in my mom’s living room and wrote most of it on my electric, completely ampless. My mom would ...
