My first web page came to existence sometime in the latter half of 1995 while doing a homework assignment for a physics class. It was pretty shoddy looking, but it was my first real online presence (other than the BBS I used to run a few years before). For the most part, I’ve managed to keep that online presence over the years, changing both the look and feel, and the hosting location, each time.
In the old days I used to hand code most of the home pages I had, sometimes even going as far as to write my own blogging engine. Thankfully, there are programs now that do a far better job than the stuff I wrote back then. The current incarnation of this website uses the following components:
- Apache server running on Linux
- PHP 5.0
- Wordpress 2.x
For now, the current hosting location is at HostMonster.com, and the domain name duanestorey.com is registered at GoDaddy. This website used to have the address www.duanestorey.net, but some asshole stole it from me years ago and refused to give it back (last I checked it was available again, but I’m pretty used to this one now).
I also make use of several plugins and code on this website, namely:
- Custom theme for the look and feel of this website. Some visual elements have been ‘borrowed’ from the Kubrick theme
- The transition effects come from the Scriptaculous Visual Effects Library
The name “the duane storey” is a blatant rip-off of my friend Jill’s website.
