Well, a few people came up to me recently and told me that they encountered a blog posting today about my #1 spot when you search for “Vancouver blogger” on Google, and how the blog owner was planning a Google coup-d’etat against me before Northern Voice in just a few weeks.
To be honest, I could really care less about my rank on Google for the phrase “Vancouver blogger”, but I think it’s sort of a humorous effort, and I’m always up for a challenge. I’m purposefully not going to take the bait and point back to his blog (haha!), but trust me the entry exists, and YOU must help me defeat him.
The person who started the challenge is encouraging everyone reading his blog to link back to his blog to increase his page rank. If you read my blog from time to time and don’t already link to it, feel free to add it now to show your support for me in my battle against the evil DARTH JEALOUSY.
To sweeten the deal I’ll give a free 12×18″ (that’s pretty big) print away to one special person of an HDR shot that I’ve never released yet for Vancouver. It will be a one of a kind original, at least for a while :)

To be entered, link back to my blog and post a comment on this entry. I’ll announce the winner in a few weeks, and reveal the photo. If you manage to get someone else to drop a link as well, tell them to indicate it in the comments (a referral if you will), and I’ll count you again for each one (also, if anyone still hasn’t received your print from a few months ago, drop me an email. I sent a few last week and have a few on my table that I didn’t have addresses for). I’ll send the print anywhere in the world (as long as it’s accessible easily by mail), so feel free to chime in if you’re outside of North America too!
Get all your blogger friends out to support me against evil. And send some juicy link love my way! If anyone wants to include that funky Star Wars knock off I did up above, just grab this code below:
I’ll get rid of the autoplay audio tomorrow, but put up with it for now — it’s pretty fun.

Did I win yet?
Not that I have a huge readership of my piddling little blog, but there is a link to yours!
May the uhm, Force be with you?
Don’t forget the closing tags for the embeds. ;-)
Unfortunately, Blogger flags a warning even with that. :-p

gave you a big, wet, juicy link love smacker!
Sadly, this excludes those of us who have linked back to you for like 2 years! Bah! May you trip over your blogsaber and cut off your big toe! (just kidding…keep the toe…it’s essential for balance which you’ll need in the upcoming battle)
You are such a huge geek, even I am impressed!
Duane, I’m glad you have accepted my friendly Google chellenge, the Vancouver Blogger Smackdown. It’s a silly and fun way to hype this year’s Northern Voice: spice it up with a little controversy.
I’ve thrown down the gauntlet. Who will be #1 for the search term “Vancouver blogger” on the first day of this year’s conference? We could peak too soon - a premature top-ranking, so to speak.
I may end up as Google road kill, but people will tell their grandkids about the Great Vancouver Blogger Smackdown of 2008!
I accept your challenge. I shall reclaim my throne. Long live the Empire! (Insert your favourite Palpatine laugh here.)

Happy to link to you.
Been a fan via the RSS feed for quite a while, so I decided to do something better than just link to you…that’s right…i made you a COOL KID.
This is a big fuck deal.

I linked to you! Anyone want to link to me? I’ll be your best friend.
[...] But when the rest of the local geek squad (and I write that as a Level 4 Geek) found out about my dastardly shenanigans, it was open season on Currents and Jonathon Narvey’s search ranking. The Vancouver Blogger challenge was born, thanks to Vancouver communications guru and media maven Michael Klassen. 2008 Tech Woman to Watch Miss604 has also entered the running and she seems fairly intent on grinding Currents’ search ranking into plasma. As for Duane Blogwalker, may the Force be with you. [...]
I wish you the best of luck in taking top spot in the Vancouver Blogger Challenge, Duane. But I’ve had my day in the sun. In the words of modern philosopher Jerry Seinfeld, I CHOOSE NOT TO RUN!
I can’t really see anything to gain other than bragging rights. I’m new to bloggin, so I dunno, but it seems like a lot of work.
I don’t have a really real blog but I’ll put it up on facebook. Even tho you import your notes to facebook I don’t see the updates in my mini feed… I only see your imported notes show up when I go to write a note… if you have some sort of setting disabled you might be able to get more hits if you change that?
Good luck.
Haha, did anyone else notice Boris is at #3 right now (after Klassen and the blog meetup)? Is he even trying???
Actually, as of 10.48 am on Thursday morning, Michael Klassen is first, Vancouver Blogger Meetup (the invite created by Isabella Mori) is second, and Duane is third. Man, this is getting exciting! I got to meet Shane at the VBM… and I’ll admit I’m just a little blogpadawan. May the Force be with… whomever wins :)
